This painting was formally inspired by Henri-Georges Clouzot's Le Mystère Picasso in which the painter reveals his underlying use of verticle and horizontal lines to divide the picture plane, based on his studies of Old Masters, through painting on glass. 'Tangle' is 6 feet high and 4 feet wide, and was completed, like many other of Cue's large scale works, before Ms. Cue had graduated high school.
