This medium to large panel continues the artist's formalist preoccupation with the division of the picture plain, which competes with decorative and automatic, confessionalist writing impulses, to produce a multi-layered, self-contradictory final product. During this time Cue was a student in the Advanced Painting Studios at the School of the Art Institute, where analysis of painting often took precedence over producing work.
